SHELLY BEACH
Shelly Beach Small Craft Harbour - Launch Base
One of the main sea attractions of the Shelly Beach area is the Small Craft Harbour, where all small craft launching in Shelly Beach takes place under strict supervision of the Harbour Master. Craft launching from this harbour includes various sizes of deep-sea fishing boats, deep-sea diving rubber ducks, rubber ducks as well as ski boats for whale watching and pleasure trips , the National Sea Rescue (NSRI) has an emergency craft based here for sea rescue emergencies, and jet skis also launch from this harbour.

There is also a tidal swimming pool at this popular visitor’s location. Shelly Beach has two major shopping malls that are frequented by shoppers from the Wild Coast in the South to Hibberdene in the North. Between the two malls there are a wide selection of smart restaurants and coffee shops, movie cinemas, and a large variety of retail shops, including the larger brand stores.
Shelly Beach also has a new hospital which caters for most medical processes and procedures.
SAINT MICHAELS ON SEA
Saint Michaels Beach
This area just South of Shelly Beach, which is a suburb of the Uvongo area, has a very popular Blue Flag Swimming Beach, from where various international surfing and body boarding competitions are held annually. This locality also offers some great restaurants both on the beach and others nearby within walking distance.
Saint Michaels Tidal & Kiddies Pools
This locality is very popular with families with small children visiting here, because of the large grassed areas, the tidal swimming pool and the children’s fresh water paddling pool, all conveniently positioned adjacent to the beach and restaurant.
UVONGO
Uvongo is another very popular location just South of Saint Michaels On Sea, particularly for its golden beach nestled amongst the high rock faces of the Uvongo river and lagoon.

The Uvongo Falls, fed from the inland Ivungu River, forms the backdrop to this lovely beach location, often providing a spectacular haze as the raging water traverses the rock face.

Another big attraction of this beach is the fact that the high rock faces provide a great wind breaker, thus one can still enjoy being on this beach when most blustery wind conditions prevail at the coast. Uvongo also has a good restaurant at the beach, as well as a couple of good restaurants and a variety of retail shops in walking distance of the beach front.
Uvongo Beach also has a well positioned tidal pool that caters for the young and old, due to the convenient sloping ramp entrance into the pool.

Uvongo beach also has a very popular fishing pier that enables avid salt water fishermen access to the deeper waters, with the hope of catching a larger species of fish and game fish, that regularly create excitement here for these keen fishermen.

MANABA BEACH
Manaba Beach is located approximately 3km South of Uvongo Beach with the main swimming beach named Lucienne Beach. Manaba tidal pool is very popular for holiday makers and local residents alike, because it is ideally located central to the main facilities of both the Uvongo and Margate suburbs.

LUCIENNE BEACH
Lucienne Beach, located on the North side of the “Margate Golden Mile” Beach is very popular and easily accessible by the various beach front complexes on the Golden Mile Beach. There are a variety of retail shops in this area including the large SPAR located on Marine Drive.

Lucienne Beach is a popular location for both swimming and fishing. This beach and Margate beach are often the centre of attraction in the winter months, when the annual sardine run hits our shores, and the seine netters ply their business from this beach hauling in the slippery silver fish.

MARGATE
Margate is a very popular tourist holiday area having a very popular main beach. Our part of the south coast is in many ways has been and is still carried under the “Margate brand”. The Margate main beach is regularly used for talent competitions, “live band” music functions, organised beach games and many other fun tourist orientated events.

This beach includes a secure area where children can safely paddle in the large kiddies pool and play under parental supervision. There are a large number of smart restaurants and a large variety of retail shops within walking distance of Margate Beach. Margate’s large hospital and clinic facilities are well geared up to cover most medical requirements.

Margate has a large smartly revamped fishing pier that is extremely popular with the hoards of avid fishermen as well, looking to catch the big one”, especially during the winter months when the annual “Sardine Run” is upon us and the large game fish are often abundant.

Adjacent to the Margate Pier is a new whale viewing deck that is very popular during the winter months as well, when the whales give their continual displays of spouting fountains of spray, jumping and playfully breaching the water surface. A spectacle that has anybody gaping in awe and amazement.

RAMSGATE
Ramsgate Beach
Ramsgate, located just south of Margate, is a very popular residential and holiday locality. Ramsgate main swimming beach attracts the type of holiday maker that does not want to be jostled around by the multitudes that prefer the busier Margate beach area.

Ramgate beach also has a very popular tidal pool which is often almost under continuous waves, giving one the feeling that you are in fact swimming in the open ocean, but still secure within the swimming pool confines.
Ramsgate Whale Watching Deck
There is also a very popular elevated whale watcher’s viewing deck, located just south of the main beach, also providing a magnificent view of the whales frolicking in the sea. Ramsgate also has a ski boat club and launching site, approximately 2km south of the main beach.
There are also a couple of great restaurants in Ramsgate including the two very popular ones, at the main beach.
